Pet Adoption Event a Huge Success

Picture10Critter Doctor’s Dr. Wendy Bernstein was excited to join Pawsitive Alliance and 16 Washington State pet rescue organizations at their “Bow Wow Meow Luau” pet adoption campaign on Sunday, June 29th at Denny’s Pet World in Kirkland. Doc Wendy was on hand to address concerns potential pet owners might have and just to provide adopting families with the pet care information they might need to feel comfortable with their adoption decision.

And it was a spectacular success.

Of the 200 pets up for adoption, 130 were adopted during this event! That’s an extraordinary number when you consider that if these agencies just waited for clients to come to them, it might have taken months to find homes for these animals. And Denny’s offered a great venue for the event, sponsoring raffles, give a ways, and refreshments. Even Critter Doctor got into the act, raffling off a pet gate and baby stroller. A good time was had by all. Doc Wendy even did her nails for the event! (This never happens.)

What most of us don’t realize about these rescue organizations is what an important role they play in getting these pets adopted. It is a sad and grim truth that each year in this country thousands of pets are euthanized because homes cannot be found for them. These rescue organizations are these pets only advocates.

Not only do they ensure that all their animals are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and ready to hula into your heart, but many of these groups work on a volunteer basis, donating their time, energy and talents to making sure these pets do find a home. And before these rescued animals find that forever home, these groups foster the pets, providing basic health care, grooming needs, training and socialization, and a safe place for the animals to live until a the proper home comes along. We should all applaud their continuing efforts.
